Former Minister for Railways Development, John Peter Amewu, has been released after being detained by National Security operatives on Tuesday, 25th March 2025.

Mr. Amewu was reportedly questioned over his involvement in the $2 million failed Sky Train project. His arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into the collapsed initiative, according to local reports.

The Sky Train project, which allegedly received $2 million in funding, failed to meet its intended objectives, as confirmed by Ghana’s Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, in a press briefing on Monday, 24th March. Dr. Ayine also revealed that investigations found the company that was said to have received the funds in Mauritius was non-existent.

The Attorney-General further announced that prosecutions related to the scandal would begin by mid-April 2025. He assured the public that suspects are cooperating with investigators, and efforts to recover misappropriated public funds are underway, with justice expected to follow.
