The Police have arrested a suspect in the killing of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose charred body was discovered on July 9 in a drainage canal near the GBC Satellite enclave in Accra’s Ashongman Estate. Amoah had been missing since July 3.
The suspect, Bright Aweh, was detained by the Accra Regional Police following a trail of digital and financial evidence linking him to the victim in the days leading up to his disappearance. According to a police statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Aweh was the last known individual to have communicated with Amoah.

Investigators say Aweh lured Amoah to a late-night meeting with the promise of resolving a financial dispute. Prior to the encounter, he reportedly sent the officer WhatsApp messages containing images of large bundles of cash. The rendezvous was arranged for the evening of July 3 — the last time Amoah was seen alive.
Under interrogation, Aweh claimed he handed over GHS 500,000 (approximately $39,000) to Amoah for safekeeping and to settle an undisclosed debt. However, investigators noted inconsistencies in Aweh’s account, including an unclear origin of the funds and conflicting timelines, which have further deepened suspicions.
Amoah’s remains were identified by relatives at the Police Hospital morgue. Despite extensive burns, authorities were able to confirm his identity. The Ghana Police Service has called on the public to come forward with any information relevant to the case, urging citizens to contact the nearest police station or dial emergency hotlines 18555 or 192.
