The Ghana Police Service has stepped up security at Christian Methodist School in New Aplaku, Weija, located in the Greater Accra Region, following a violent altercation between students and local youth on February 28. The incident, which stemmed from a dispute over a stolen phone, resulted in two individuals being injured, including one student.
In response to concerns over potential reprisals, authorities have maintained a heavy police presence at the school. To ensure the safety of the students, law enforcement officials have been evacuating them in small groups using police vehicles to avoid further disturbances.
The evacuation, which is taking place in three separate batches, involves 10 students per group under police escort. ASP Godfred Bampoe, Crime Officer at the Weija SCC Police Station, addressed the students, urging them to remain calm and orderly during the process.
“We will begin by moving the female students first, escorting them to the roadside where they will board transport to their destinations,” Bampoe said. “Please stay in line and remain calm for your safety.”
Meanwhile, the school’s Headmaster is scheduled to meet with the Regional Education Director to discuss further security measures in light of the incident.
