The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service, has launched an investigation into a fire that broke out early on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools in Accra. The facility had been used to store ballot boxes from the Ablekuma North Constituency, a key area in the recently concluded elections.
In a statement, the Police assured the public that they would hold anyone responsible for the fire accountable, with arrests and prosecutions to follow. Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm as investigations into the cause of the blaze continue.
This incident comes amid heightened tensions following post-election unrest. The Police reported that 132 individuals have been arrested nationwide in connection with these disturbances. Of those, 45 have been remanded in custody, 71 are on police enquiry bail, and 16 have been granted court bail as legal proceedings unfold.
The authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and stability and called on the public to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigations.
