The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an incident involving the convoy of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate for the 2024 general election.

In a statement released on Sunday, December 1, the police provided initial details, confirming that the incident occurred between Akuse and Kpong, along the Akosombo-Accra Highway in the Eastern Region.

Reports indicate that a dispatch rider, travelling in the opposite direction, allegedly threw an object at the windscreen of one of the vehicles in Prof Opoku-Agyemang’s convoy. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle’s windscreen, raising concerns about the safety of political figures on the campaign trail.

The police have assured the public that the matter is being taken seriously and a thorough investigation is underway. They have pledged to identify and apprehend the individual responsible and will ensure the full force of the law is applied upon their capture.

This incident has sparked calls for enhanced security measures for political convoys, particularly as the country nears its December elections. The police have urged the public to remain calm and assured them of their commitment to maintaining public safety and order.
