The Ghana Police Service has suspended an officer in Tamale after he was allegedly found in possession of restricted pharmaceutical substances.

General Lance Corporal Shani Abdullai was interdicted following the discovery at Kpalsi, a suburb in the Northern Region capital, the police announced in a Facebook post on May 4.

Authorities say the suspension is to make way for a full investigation into the officer’s conduct, in accordance with internal disciplinary procedures.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about accountability within Ghana’s law enforcement ranks, though officials have yet to provide details on the specific substances involved or whether criminal charges will follow.

The Police Service has vowed to uphold professional standards while the investigation continues.
