The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) has announced the immediate suspension of Premier League referee David Coote, pending a full investigation after a controversial video surfaced online. In the footage, Coote allegedly used abusive words to describe Liverpool and its former manager Jürgen Klopp

The clip, which began circulating on social media on Monday, reportedly captures Coote calling Klopp “arrogant” and accusing him of dishonesty following a heated match between Liverpool and Burnley during the 2020 Project Restart. Coote’s most recent assignment was officiating Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.

PGMOL has stated that they would “make no further comment until that process is complete.” This investigation could bring major changes to officiating protocols as the league seeks to uphold integrity on and off the field.
