President John Dramani Mahama has renewed the curfew in Bawku Municipality and surrounding areas in the Upper East Region, effective from Monday, January 13, 2025. The curfew will now run from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., replacing the previous dawn-to-dusk restrictions.

In addition to the curfew, a total ban has been placed on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons in the region. The Ministry of Interior has warned that anyone found in violation of this ban will face arrest and prosecution.

The government has urged local leaders, including chiefs, elders, and youth, to show restraint and pursue peaceful solutions to the ongoing tensions. President Mahama is also set to meet with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Sunday, January 19, to discuss the situation in Bawku and nearby Walewale.
