President John Dramani Mahama is visiting the northern Ghanaian towns of Bawku and Nalerigu on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, as part of his ongoing efforts to resolve the long-running conflict in the region.

The mission, which is focused on peace-building and reconciliation, aims to address the deep-rooted tensions that have plagued Bawku for decades. During the visit, Mahama will engage with local leaders, conflicting factions, and other key stakeholders in an attempt to foster dialogue and pave the way for a sustainable peace agreement.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Presidential Spokesperson, emphasized the president’s dedication to using diplomatic efforts as a means to resolve the conflict. “The President is determined to promote constructive dialogue and find inclusive solutions that will bring lasting peace to Bawku,” he said.

The visit underscores Mahama’s broader vision for a united Ghana, where regional disputes are handled through diplomatic means and mutual understanding. Following his engagements in Bawku and Nalerigu, Mahama is expected to return to Accra later in the day. The trip reflects the government’s emphasis on peace, reconciliation, and long-term development as central priorities for 2025 governance.
