Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has reaffirmed that the investigation into the disruptions during the vetting of ministerial nominees will continue, even after the suspension of four MPs was lifted.
The suspension of the MPs—Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (Majority Chief Whip), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Minority Chief Whip), Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli, and Jerry Ahmed Shaib—followed their involvement in a violent altercation during the vetting session last week. The suspension was lifted following a bipartisan appeal from both the Majority and Minority leadership.
Despite this reversal, Speaker Bagbin emphasized that the disciplinary investigation, led by a special committee, would proceed as planned. “I promise you, the investigations will continue,” Bagbin stated. “The report will be presented to the house, and we will follow the procedures outlined by our rules and parliamentary custom to reach a decision.”
The special committee, chaired by Ho West MP Emmanuel Bedzrah, has been tasked with identifying the individuals responsible for the disruptions and making recommendations for appropriate action. The Speaker urged that the matter be handled within the committee and not become fodder for public debate, warning that any premature public statements could confuse the nation. “What you know here is not known by the public. One word can mislead the entire country,” he cautioned.
While the suspended MPs can now resume their parliamentary duties, they, along with other members, may still be required to testify or provide evidence during the ongoing investigation. The findings will guide any further disciplinary measures and aim to restore order to parliamentary proceedings.
