Former Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has revealed that his “real party” is not represented on the ballot for Ghana’s upcoming 2024 general elections.
In an exclusive interview at his home in Accra, Professor Frimpong-Boateng expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that he feels disconnected from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) due to internal divisions within the party. He added that despite his longstanding affection for the NPP, he no longer sees himself as a member.
“The NPP is fragmented, disunited, and lacks cohesion. I no longer feel a part of it,” said the professor, reflecting on his emotional ties to the party that date back to his grandfather’s leadership role as the Adontenhene of Toase. “This is a party I have loved since childhood, but the changes I’ve seen have left me disillusioned.”
Professor Frimpong-Boateng also highlighted personal frustrations, citing ongoing legal battles involving two members of his former party over his work on combating environmental issues. “I was asked to present a report to fight environmental terrorism, and yet, two members of my party have taken me to court,” he said.
While he expressed disappointment with the current state of the NPP, he described the party of a few years ago as one that upheld the rule of law, good governance, and the separation of powers—values he believes have been lost in the current leadership.
