Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Abdulai Mohammed Mubarak, known as Ras Mubarak, has filed a lawsuit against Scancom PLC, operators of MTN Ghana, demanding $5 million in compensation for the alleged failure to provide roaming services during a trip abroad.

In the lawsuit, Ras Mubarak claims he has been a loyal customer of MTN for over 20 years, regularly relying on their roaming service for both personal and business needs while travelling. He stated that in September 2024, he activated MTN’s roaming service before travelling to the United Arab Emirates, but upon arrival, he was unable to use his mobile phone for calls, SMS, or internet services.

Mubarak claims that despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue through MTN Ghana, he remained without service for an entire week, leaving him “stranded” and unable to communicate with business associates or family. He further alleges that this failure caused significant damage to his business, including missed opportunities, and harmed his reputation as a public figure.

The former MP also stated that the lack of service affected his family, preventing him from sending money home for the support of his wives and children. He had to rely on loans from employees and associates during his week in the UAE.

Mubarak is seeking $5 million in damages for the financial losses, emotional distress, and public embarrassment he claims to have suffered. He is also requesting that MTN cover any additional legal costs associated with the case.
