Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi has been officially confirmed as Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), following an overwhelming endorsement by Assembly Members.
Mr. Boadi, a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, was nominated by former President John Dramani Mahama. He secured 55 out of 56 votes in a decisive show of support from the Assembly, solidifying his return to public office in Ghana’s second-largest city.
The confirmation comes at a critical time for Kumasi, which is grappling with long-standing urban management issues. Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene urged Mr.Boadi to make decongestion, sanitation, and improvements at the Kejetia Market top priorities. These challenges, the Minister said, continue to hinder development in the region’s commercial hub.
“The Regional Coordinating Council is ready to work closely with the KMA to confront the pressing issues affecting residents,” Dr. Amoakohene said.
Mr. Boadi’s confirmation signals a renewed effort by regional authorities to restore order and enhance infrastructure in Kumasi, amid growing demands for efficient urban governance and improved public services.
