Communications Minister Sam George has authorised the dismissal of nearly 100 employees from Ghana Post, citing irregularities in their recruitment.

The affected staff were hired after the December 7, 2024, election, a period during which the minister alleges proper procedures were not followed. Speaking to the press, Sam George reiterated his commitment to cleaning up the ministry by removing individuals whose appointments were not in line with established protocols.

Asserting his position as the head of the ministry, Mr. George explained, “If you are a minister and inherit a ministry with 3,117 staff, 600 of whom were recruited post-election, you cannot expect me to accept such a situation. The rationalisation process is ongoing.”

The minister revealed that almost 100 employees at Ghana Post, whose appointments were made after the election, would be dismissed. He explained that the irregular hiring had led to inefficiencies within the department, with positions filled without following due process.

Mr. George, who represents Ningo-Prampram in Parliament, stated he was on a mission to streamline the ministry, ensuring it is lean, efficient, and capable of fulfilling its responsibilities.

The government has been addressing irregular post-election appointments in the public sector, claiming many were made without adhering to proper procedures.
