At the Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona,Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam George, met with MTN’s top executives, including Group CEO Ralph Mupita and Group SVP Eben Asante, to discuss potential collaborations aimed at improving service quality and customer experience in Ghana.
A significant outcome of this engagement was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry and MTN Ghana for the rollout of the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP), a flagship initiative from the administration of President John Mahama.
The OMCP is an ambitious project aimed at equipping one million Ghanaians with essential digital skills, positioning the country as a key player in the global tech space. According to George, this initiative is the result of a strong collaboration between the government and private sector, reflecting Ghana’s commitment to fostering innovation and enhancing its competitiveness in the digital economy.
The programme’s official launch is expected in the coming days, with President John Mahama slated to lead the ceremony as part of his 120-day social contract initiative.
During his remarks, Mr. George underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in strengthening Ghana’s digital infrastructure and enhancing service quality. “Our discussions with MTN focused on areas of mutual interest aimed at improving the quality of service and the customer experience in Ghana,” he said.
This partnership between the government and MTN signals a new chapter for Ghana’s tech ecosystem, which is poised for rapid digital transformation and skill development.
