Ghana is setting its sights on becoming Africa’s leading hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI) by 2028, according to Samuel Nartey George, the Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation.

During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 30, George outlined his ambitious vision to harness the power of AI, big data, and digital innovation to propel the country to the forefront of Africa’s technological future. He emphasized the need for strong collaboration between government, the private sector, and global tech companies to make this vision a reality.

George likened AI’s current potential to the early days of cryptocurrency, highlighting its transformative impact on global economies and industries. He also noted that President John Dramani Mahama’s administration has a clear AI policy that will build on the AI strategy established by the previous government.

“We’re going to make Ghana the AI hub of Africa by 2028. This includes executing innovation hubs, and integrating AI with big data, machine learning, cybersecurity, and data analytics to elevate our digital ecosystem,” George explained.

With this bold initiative, Ghana hopes to not only participate in the digital revolution but to lead it, setting a new standard for tech innovation in Africa.
