Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has warned that DSTV could lose its broadcasting licence by August 7, 2025, if it fails to reduce subscription prices in line with regulatory directives.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Friday, August 1, the Minister disclosed that he had directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to begin suspension processes should DSTV ignore the directive.

I have instructed the NCA to act swiftly. If by the 7th of August DSTV has not complied, their broadcasting licence will be suspended,” Sam George stated.

The Minister’s ultimatum follows a response from DSTV defending its current pricing, citing macroeconomic challenges such as a 200% depreciation of the Ghanaian Cedi over the past eight years.

However, Mr George rejected the justification, describing it as insufficient and unfair to consumers.

“My loyalty lies with the Ghanaian people. They have been cheated for too long and it must stop,” he emphasized.
We will not allow foreign service providers to exploit our citizens under the pretext of economic pressures.”
