The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, has issued a public apology after a video emerged showing him giving a cash gift in US dollars to controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa.

Mr Gyamfi, who is also a prominent political figure, faced backlash on social media after footage circulated showing him handing over the money to Patricia Oduro Koranteng, widely known as Nana Agradaa, during a public event. The former fetish priestess has been a divisive figure in Ghana, previously facing allegations of fraud and unethical conduct.

The video prompted criticism from both the public and members of Mr Gyamfi’s own political party, who questioned the appropriateness of his association with the self-styled evangelist.

In a statement posted to Facebook on Sunday, 11 May, Mr Gyamfi described the donation as a “private act of kindness” and said he had not intended for the gesture to become public.

“I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private, and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space,” he wrote.

He acknowledged the concerns raised by supporters and apologised for what he called an “unfortunate act of indiscretion”.

“To all such comrades, I am sincerely sorry. I respect and appreciate your views,” he added.

Mr Gyamfi stressed that the donation was not politically motivated, but rather reflected his personal values of compassion and assistance to those in need.

“My view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems, and help others has not changed,” he said. “I remain focused on the task entrusted to me by His Excellency, the President, for the development of our country.”

He concluded by expressing gratitude to those who had offered advice and support, and extended well-wishes to mothers on the occasion of Mother’s Day.
