President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), effective from 16 January 2025.
Gyamfi’s appointment comes as part of the government’s push to establish the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key pledge in the NDC’s 2024 election manifesto. The GoldBod will be tasked with overseeing the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources, aiming to maximise the benefits for the country’s economy.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President, confirmed the appointment and highlighted the government’s commitment to revitalising the economy through this initiative. The GoldBod will also focus on formalising the small-scale gold mining sector and providing vital support services to the industry.
Gyamfi, a lawyer and economic policy analyst with extensive experience in both law and mining, will lead the effort. He holds degrees from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the University of Ghana, as well as executive certifications from Harvard Kennedy School. His previous experience includes working with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a well-known mining company in Ghana.
