Sekondi-Takoradi, the twin city in Ghana’s Western Region, is gearing up for the highly anticipated ‘Taadi Bronya’ Masquerade Festival, set to take place from December 25 to January 1.

Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has reassured attendees that the city is committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all festival-goers. The city’s vibrant masquerade parades, which have grown in popularity over recent years, feature colourful costumes, brass band music, and energetic dancing, making it a key attraction during the Christmas season.

The Western Regional branch of the Ghana Tourism Authority, alongside the Western Regional Coordinating Council and the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, has officially opened the city to visitors for the 2024 festivities. The event highlights the city’s rich cultural heritage and aims to further promote Sekondi-Takoradi as a premier tourist destination in Ghana.

“We are excited to kick off the ‘Taadi Bronya’ 2024 celebrations. After weeks of preparation, Sekondi-Takoradi is ready to welcome visitors from across the globe to experience our vibrant culture and warm hospitality,” said a spokesperson for the Ghana Tourism Authority. “Today marks the official opening, and we can’t wait to share the magic of this year’s festival.”

Minister Darko-Mensah emphasised the economic potential of such events, stating that carnivals like ‘Taadi Bronya’ can significantly boost revenue for the host city. He also reassured the public that comprehensive security arrangements have been made to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.

“For the past six years, we’ve worked hard to establish Sekondi-Takoradi as a top tourist destination. The growing interest in this year’s festival is a testament to our success,” Darko-Mensah said. “We invite all Ghanaians and visitors to enjoy our beautiful city and its rich cultural offerings. Sekondi-Takoradi is safe and ready for the festive season.”
