In a recent swearing-in ceremony, Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama called on newly appointed ministers to approach their roles with humility, honesty, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Ghana.

The ceremony on January 22 saw the swearing in of six ministerial nominees, following their approval by Parliament after a thorough vetting process. The newly appointed ministers are Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister, Dr. Dominic Ayine as Attorney General, John Jinapor as Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Haruna Iddrisu as Education Minister, Eric Opoku as Minister for Food and Agriculture, and Governs Kwame Agbodza as Minister for Roads and Highways.

During his address, President Mahama emphasized the responsibility of the ministers in fulfilling the public’s expectations, reminding them that their authority is derived from the Ghanaian people who elected the government into office.

“Ghanaians have made it clear that they will no longer tolerate disrespect from government officials,” Mahama stated, stressing the need for accountability. “They will take decisive action against any administration that disregards them.”

The President urged the new ministers to remember that they serve at the pleasure of the people, stressing the importance of engaging with the public in a respectful and transparent manner.

“We must always serve with humility and candour, acknowledging that our authority comes from the citizens we serve. Tolerance for their views and working to meet their aspirations should be at the heart of our governance,” he said.

Mahama further reassured the public that his government would not condone any behavior that disrespects the people of Ghana, emphasizing that public officials must remain grounded and dedicated to their duties.
