Several people are feared dead following a serious road crash at Kwashieman in Accra in the early hours of Friday.

The collision, which occurred at about  4 am on Good Friday, involved a passenger bus and a truck carrying onions.

According to reports, the bus — a Grand Bird vehicle travelling from Takoradi towards Sowutuom — was attempting to turn at the Kwashieman traffic lights when the incident happened. At the same time, the truck was approaching the intersection from the Lapaz direction, heading towards Kasoa.

Witnesses say the truck was moving on an amber light when the bus began its turn. Despite the truck driver sounding the horn repeatedly to warn the bus, the two vehicles collided with significant force.

The impact forced the truck off its path and into a group of pedestrians who had gathered at the junction waiting to cross the road.
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene. A National Ambulance Service team from Ablekuma North transported 20 घायल victims to the Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital, while eight others were taken to the Ablekuma North Polyclinic.

Eyewitnesses described the aftermath as chaotic, with extensive damage and multiple casualties causing panic among bystanders.

The bus is reported to have been carrying passengers travelling to attend a convention.

Authorities are yet to confirm the number of fatalities, and investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
