Simon Madjie has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), taking over from Dr. Bernice Makafui Brempong, who held the role for just two weeks.
The reasons behind Dr. Brempong’s sudden reassignment remain unclear, with no official explanation from the government. However, sources indicate that she has been reassigned to a key role at the Jubilee House, the country’s presidential palace, though details of her new position have not been disclosed.
Dr. Brempong, an economist and public policy expert, was appointed to lead the GIPC after a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors. Despite her short tenure, her appointment was widely seen as a step towards bolstering Ghana’s economic growth and investment climate.
Madjie, an experienced lawyer and investment professional, takes the reins at a pivotal moment. He brings over a decade of expertise in trade and investment facilitation, particularly in fostering partnerships between Ghana, the United States, and broader African markets. His prior role as Executive Secretary of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ghana (AmCham) saw him drive significant investments and trade initiatives between the two nations.
Mr. Madjie is well-regarded for his efforts in establishing Ghana as a preferred destination for foreign direct investment (FDI). Under his leadership, the American Chamber of Commerce successfully brokered several high-profile projects and strengthened bilateral economic ties. He is also the coordinator of the Chamber’s AfCFTA Resource Center, dedicated to bridging the information gap surrounding Africa’s largest trade agreement.
An Abshire-Inamori International Leadership Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Madjie also serves as a fellow at the Institute of International Affairs in Ghana. He is a member of the Ghana Bar Association and has provided consultancy services in the establishment of AmChams in countries like Ethiopia, Angola, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Madjie holds a master’s degree in International Trade Law from the University of Turin, with further academic credentials from prestigious institutions including the European University Institute and the United Nations Convention on International Trade Law.
