The chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, has confirmed that the commission does not expect any shortages of election materials or equipment during the upcoming December 7 elections.

In what she described as her final media engagement ahead of the polls, Mrs. Mensa assured that all election materials and equipment had been distributed across the regions in adequate quantities, stating, “We don’t anticipate any shortage in any part of the country.”

She also provided an update on voter participation, revealing that 18,774,159 registered voters, accounting for 55% of the country’s total population, are expected to take part in the election.

Regarding the special voting exercise, Mrs. Mensa reported a successful turnout, with participation rates ranging from 83% upwards.

On media access, the EC chair confirmed that nearly 10,000 media professionals had been accredited to cover the elections, granting them access to polling stations, constituency, and regional collation centres. She urged journalists to report accurately, calling on them to “rise to the task and cover elections truthfully.”

In addition, over 20,000 local and international observers have been accredited for the election, with Mrs. Mensa stating that they have been provided with maps to help them locate polling stations.
