Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) at the Presidency, has taken legal action against journalist Adakabre Frimpong Manso over defamatory statements aired on Neat FM.
Represented by law firm R.O. Solomon Consulting, Dogbe has formally demanded a public retraction and apology from both Manso and the station.
The controversy stems from a broadcast in which Frimpong Manso accused Dogbe and Callistus Mahama of manipulating presidential appointment processes without President John Dramani Mahama’s knowledge.
The report also claimed that disgruntled members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were allegedly plotting to take action against them.
In a sharply-worded letter to Mr.Frimpong Manso, Mr.Dogbe’s legal team categorically denied the allegations, calling them “pure fabrications” and asserting that Dogbe had no involvement in any activities that could undermine the President’s authority or damage his reputation. The lawyers argued that the claims were aimed at inciting public discontent and tarnishing Dogbe’s character.
In a public statement, Mr.Dogbe condemned what he described as “mercenary journalism,” accusing journalists of resorting to character assassination for financial gain. Although he had previously refrained from responding to such claims, Mr.Dogbe declared he would no longer tolerate misinformation from journalists prioritizing personal or monetary benefits over truth and integrity.
“I have tolerated this mercenary journalism in the past, but no longer,”Mr. Dogbe said, labeling such actions as a form of corruption that must not be permitted in Ghanaian media.
Mr.Dogbe’s legal representatives have set a deadline for an immediate retraction and apology, warning that failure to comply would result in legal action. The move underscores Mr.Dogbe’s resolve to safeguard his reputation against unfounded accusations in the media.
