In a bold move, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately reverse the directive that mandates the cancellation of all public sector appointments made after December 7, 2024.
This appeal comes after Chief of Staff Julius Debrah issued instructions to heads of government institutions, demanding they annul recent public service appointments and recruitments.
In a statement released on Tuesday, February 25, TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah expressed deep concern over the potential fallout from these terminations. He warned that the mass layoffs of teachers, nurses, and other professionals, many of whom have waited years for employment, could have devastating social and economic consequences.
“The ongoing mass terminations are a grave injustice to those who have spent years, often at great personal and financial cost, preparing for public service,” Mr.Ansah said. “This is not only a blow to these dedicated young men and women but a stain on our nation’s democratic values. The damage to their faith in the system could be irreparable.”
Mr.Ansah emphasized the long-term impact these decisions could have on the country’s workforce, urging the government to reconsider before further harm is done to the hopes and futures of its citizens.
