Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, Deputy Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways, has reassured Parliament that the government remains committed to completing the Eastern Corridor Road project.
During his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Mr. Suhuyini emphasized that the government would continue to prioritize the infrastructure project and ensure its completion in the shortest possible time.
“I have the assurances of my minister and by extension the government that the Eastern Corridor Road remains a priority road to this government and will be tackled with all the seriousness that it deserves for it to be completed within the shortest possible time,” he stated.
The Eastern Corridor Road is a vital national project linking the northern and southern regions of Ghana. Spanning from Tema in the Greater Accra Region to the Volta, Oti, Northern, and Upper East regions, the road is key to supporting trade, agriculture, and regional connectivity.
The road significantly reduces travel time for traders and commuters moving goods such as yam, maize, and cassava between the northern regions and major markets in Accra. It also plays a critical role in Ghana’s regional trade, connecting the country to neighboring nations like Togo, Burkina Faso, and Niger.
While some sections of the road, such as the Jasikan-Dodo Pepesu stretch, have been completed, other parts, including the Oti Damanko-Gbinti and Hohoe-Jasikan roads, remain under construction, with progress ranging from 71% to 92% completion.
