The Supreme Court of Ghana is set to hear the National Democratic Congress (NDC) case on January 23, which seeks to overturn a High Court order directing the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation of outstanding parliamentary results.
On January 4, 2025, the High Court, under Justice Forson Baah Agyapong, granted a mandamus application filed by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), compelling the EC to finalize the collation for Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North constituencies and declare the winners.
Speaking to Citi News, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, explained that the party’s initial request for a stay of execution of the collation order was adjourned indefinitely after it was revealed that NPP candidates had not been properly served. “Our lawyers must find a way to properly serve the NPP candidates before the matter can be properly heard,” Dr. Tanko-Computer said.
He added that the NDC will present its case to the Supreme Court on January 23, asking the court to quash the High Court’s decision, which they view as allowing an “illegal” activity by the EC.
