A third suspect in the murder of Ghanaian Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah has died, the victim’s family has confirmed.

The development marks a significant and unexpected twist in a case that has captured national attention since the officer’s disappearance and subsequent killing in July.

The death of the unnamed suspect was confirmed by the victim’s brother, Kwasi Amoako, who told Accra-based Citi FM that the information came directly from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer leading the probe.

“Yesterday we went to court and I can confirm that the third suspect has passed on. I was told by the Police CID, the one who is in charge of the case. We thank God that our brother has started seeking justice for himself,” Mr Amoako said.

Police are yet to officially comment on the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death, which reportedly followed a short illness. The suspect died only days after appearing in court with the two other accused individuals.

Stephen King Amoah, 38, was reported missing on 3 July after he left home to meet a friend at Ashongman Estate, a suburb of Accra. A week later, his charred remains were discovered near Abuom Junction in Kwabenya, prompting a national outcry and a police manhunt that led to the arrest of three individuals.

The case has drawn widespread public interest, in part due to the gruesome nature of the crime and the high-profile status of the victim as a public servant.

The death of one of the suspects may complicate the ongoing judicial proceedings, but the Amoah family say they remain committed to seeking justice.

They have repeatedly called for a swift and thorough investigation, urging authorities to ensure accountability and closure in the wake of their loss.
