Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has expressed strong support for President John Dramani Mahama’s anti-corruption initiative, Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), which aims to address state resource misappropriation. Speaking during President Mahama’s Thank You Tour in the Volta Region on January 24, Togbe Afede praised the program as a crucial step toward restoring accountability and recovering stolen public assets.
“ORAL is a welcome initiative. It is one thing to suffer, but it’s even worse to know that this suffering is a result of a few individuals exploiting the state’s resources,” Togbe Afede remarked at a durbar in Ho.
The ORAL initiative, launched by President Mahama, is tasked with gathering data on suspected corruption and verifying information about stolen public funds, properties, and lands. Reports indicate that over 700 petitions have already been received from the public, reflecting strong engagement with the program.
Togbe Afede voiced his full endorsement of the President’s efforts to retrieve misappropriated state resources, including funds, land, and property. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that past mistakes are not repeated.
“We support all your efforts to recover what has been lost,” said Togbe Afede. “Your warning to your appointees is a commendable step in making corruption unattractive, and we trust they will respect this directive.”
The traditional leader also lauded President Mahama’s directive for appointees to declare their assets as a positive move toward greater government transparency.
“The directive for asset declaration is an important and reassuring step in ensuring accountability,” he added.
Togbe Afede further praised the President’s broader governance initiative, the “reset agenda,” which focuses on combating corruption and reinforcing transparency at all levels of government. He noted that Ghanaians have welcomed the President’s decisive approach to addressing corruption.
“Your reset agenda has been well received by the people. It’s a bold and swift fight against corruption, and Ghanaians are appreciative of the speed with which you are acting,” he concluded.
