United States President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, as attorney general, a position that heads the Department of Justice and acts as the country’s chief prosecutor.
Announcing on his Truth Social platform, Trump cited Gaetz’s legal expertise and role on the House Judiciary Committee. The president-elect also linked Gaetz’s nomination to his commitment to eliminate what he calls the “partisan weaponization” of the Justice Department, an accusation he has frequently leveled at Democrats.
“Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System,” Trump stated, adding that Gaetz would work to restore public trust, protect borders, and combat organized crime.
A strong supporter of Trump, Gaetz expressed his gratitude on social media, describing it as “an honor to serve as President Trump’s Attorney General.” He reinforced Trump’s message, calling for bold action against perceived government bias.
“We ought to have a full court press against this WEAPONIZED government that has been turned against our people,” Gaetz wrote, emphasizing his readiness for significant reforms.
