Donald Trump’s campaign has accused the UK’s Labour Party of election interference, alleging that Labour volunteers are being sent to campaign for Kamala Harris in the upcoming US election.
Trump’s team has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), claiming that Labour’s involvement constitutes “illegal foreign assistance” and is part of “a long history of anti-American election interference.”
The controversy began after a LinkedIn post from Labour’s head of operations revealed that nearly 100 volunteers were heading to the US to support the Harris campaign.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has sought to minimize the row, telling the BBC that Labour has a longstanding practice of sending volunteers to assist in US elections.
Analysis: According to North America editor Sarah Smith, this latest spat is unlikely to improve relations between Trump and Starmer, with less than two weeks to go before the election, as polls show Trump and Harris neck-and-neck.
