Two male students of Nalerigu Senior High School in the North East Region have been killed in a violent attack believed to be connected to the ongoing Bawku conflict.
The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, July 26, 2025, when unidentified gunmen reportedly stormed the school premises and opened fire. The victims, identified as Lukman and Gideon, were in their dormitory at the time of the assault and died instantly.
The shocking development has thrown the school and the surrounding community into mourning, heightening concerns about student safety in conflict-prone areas.
Speaking to the media, Dasmani Fuseini, Assembly Member for the Denugu Electoral Area and uncle of one of the deceased, confirmed the attack. He noted that the bodies of the victims are currently in police custody, awaiting release to their families for burial.
The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into the killings, while calls intensify for increased security in schools within volatile zones.
