A UK-based analyst, Michael Danquah, has urged members of the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) team, including North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and lawyer Martin Kpebu, to avoid discussing corruption allegations in the media.
Danquah advised the pair to resist the temptation to comment publicly on the information they have received regarding suspected corruption, particularly in light of the National Service ghost names scandal. He stressed the importance of adhering to due process, emphasizing that individuals accused of wrongdoing must be given the opportunity to defend themselves before the matter is publicly debated.
His remarks come after the ORAL team announced on December 20 that it had received a detailed dossier on the scandal, with Mr Ablakwa expressing gratitude to The Fourth Estate and the Media Foundation for West Africa for their involvement in the case.
However, Danquah warned that discussing the allegations in the media could lead to a “trial by the public” before the accused have had their day in court. He reminded Mr Ablakwa and Mr Kpebu that, as public figures, they must respect the principles of natural justice, which stipulate that the accused should be given a fair chance to be heard before any conclusions are drawn.
