The UK is set to replace all physical visa documentation with Electronic Visas (E-Visas) beginning January 1, 2025, in a move that will impact all foreign nationals intending to stay in the country for more than six months. This shift, outlined in an advisory from Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, will fully eliminate the need for physical visa documents, including those already issued in passports, Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs), and Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs).

The advisory, signed by Victor N. A. Adamah, Acting Director for the Ministry’s Information and Public Affairs Bureau, highlighted the deadline of December 31, 2024, for existing physical documentation. After this date, individuals will be required to secure E-Visas to enter, live, work, or study in the UK.

This update will also affect current BRP holders whose permissions to reside, work, or study in the UK will expire with the switch to E-Visas. Those planning to be outside the UK over the holiday season are urged to secure an E-Visa by December 31, 2024, to prevent any re-entry issues in the new year.

The Ministry advises all affected individuals to comply with the new requirements and directs them to the British High Commission’s official website or UK immigration authorities for comprehensive instructions on applying for an E-Visa.
