The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has directed its members to end their strike by Tuesday, 29 October 2024.

The strike, which began on 10 October, was launched in protest against the government’s failure to tackle illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, which UTAG claims is causing severe environmental damage, particularly to water bodies.

The industrial action has disrupted academic activities in public universities for weeks, prompting calls for resolution.

UTAG’s leadership, after negotiations with the government, has expressed hope that its demands will be addressed, leading to the decision to suspend the strike.
