A violent confrontation unfolded during a meeting of Ghana’s Appointments Committee as Minority and Majority MPs clashed over the vetting of nominees Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The dispute began when the Minority Caucus proposed rescheduling the vetting to Friday, citing concerns about the day’s proceedings. However, Majority MPs rejected the proposal, insisting the session should continue as originally planned.

The disagreement quickly escalated, with Minority MPs physically disrupting the session by breaking tables and microphones in an attempt to prevent any further progress.

The chaos prompted an increased security presence in the conference room, as tensions mounted. The Minority held firm in their position, arguing that only four nominees had been scheduled for vetting and that the session should adjourn as agreed.

Amidst the ongoing standoff, the committee’s work was brought to a halt, with neither side willing to back down.
