The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has postponed its planned offshore pipeline inspection and cleaning, known as “pigging,” from January 20 to February 3, 2025. The rescheduling aims to better accommodate stakeholder interests, according to a statement released on January 15.

The four-week operation will temporarily suspend the reverse gas flow from Ghana’s Western Region to Tema, as well as shut down key facilities in Ghana, Togo, and Benin. WAPCo will also replace subsea valves at these locations to enhance operational safety.
This cleaning and inspection process is a regulatory requirement, ensuring the continued safety and reliability of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP), which stretches from Nigeria’s Ogun State to Takoradi in Ghana.
The operation is divided into two phases: the first phase, completed in December 2024, focused on the onshore pipeline in Nigeria, while the second phase, beginning February 3, will target the offshore pipeline from Lagos, Nigeria, to Takoradi, Ghana.
The inspection, which occurs every five years, aligns with industry standards aimed at maintaining the pipeline’s integrity and operational efficiency.
