The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has announced the successful completion of key maintenance work on its pipeline system, marking the resumption of gas supply to Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
In a statement released on February 28, WAPCo confirmed the completion of a four-week maintenance project that involved cleaning and inspecting the offshore pipeline, replacing subsea valves, and performing other critical works across multiple locations in Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.
The maintenance required the temporary shutdown of pipeline laterals leading to Cotonou in Benin, Lomé in Togo, and Tema in Ghana, which resulted in short-term disruptions to gas supply in the affected regions. Despite these challenges, the company said the project was completed ahead of schedule, with high levels of safety and efficiency.
WAPCo’s Managing Director, Michelle Burkett, praised the team for their dedication in completing the complex project. “I want to congratulate every member of our team for their professionalism and hard work in overcoming challenges to ensure the success of this project,” she said.
She also expressed appreciation for the support of the governments of Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria, as well as maritime and regulatory authorities, and stakeholders such as customers, shippers, and gas off-takers.
The completion of the maintenance ensures that the pipeline system will continue to operate safely and efficiently, supporting the reliable supply of gas to the region.
