Private air charter provider McDan Aviation has denied claims that it owes the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) $3 million, which reportedly led to the closure of its private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport.

The company clarified that $2 million of the alleged debt is related to a piece of land purchased from GACL, which is currently involved in legal disputes. In an interview with Channel One News, McDan Group CEO Kweku Ampromfi explained that the company has already settled part of the outstanding terminal charges and is hopeful for the reopening of the terminal soon.

“We do not owe $3 million at the terminal,” Ampromfi stated. “There are three key issues we’ve been discussing with GACL. One concerns the tunnel, another the land we bought from them near the Action Chapel area, which is now under litigation.”

According to Ampromfi, the land’s legal complications stem from a third party’s acquisition of the same land, which was documented through the Lands Commission. As a result, the matter is being resolved in court.

“Until the litigation is settled, it doesn’t make sense for anyone to pay a large sum of money,” he added. “We’ve communicated this clearly to GACL multiple times.”

The closure of McDan Aviation’s private jet terminal follows reports of unpaid dues, including land leases, rentals, and terminal charges. Despite a Christmas deadline for payment, the debt remained unresolved.

This is not the first time McDan Aviation has faced issues with GACL. In February 2022, the company’s operations were suspended at Terminal 1 of Kotoka International Airport due to operational breaches.
