We’ll decide which party to throw our support for Election 2024 – GFP

The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has announced it will soon decide which political party to support in the upcoming December elections, following the disqualification of its presidential candidate by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The EC disqualified Philip Appiah Kubi, who replaced original candidate Madam Akua Donkor as the GFP’s flagbearer, citing significant errors and illegalities on his nomination form. Despite a 10-day window provided to rectify these issues, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa confirmed that the inconsistencies remained unacceptable, ultimately ruling Kubi out of the race.

Richard Botchway, the GFP’s National Organiser, told reporters in Accra on Tuesday that the party’s leadership would convene to discuss a potential endorsement. “We’ll meet. I am going to meet the national executive, and we will throw our support to one political party,” he said.

He added that with no candidate representing the GFP in this year’s election, the party intends to focus on building a stronger base for future contests. “We are mourning, and we are going to rebuild our mother Akua Donkor’s party for the next election,” Botchway stated.

The organiser dismissed rumours of a divided front within the party, emphasizing its unity and commitment to a strategic plan for future elections.
