The Deputy Director in charge of Special Duties for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Brogya Genfi has stated that the party’s National Chairman will present evidence to support his claim that the President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, is engaging in partisan politics.

This follows allegations made by Asiedu Nketiah during a campaign visit to Odumase in the Asante Akim Central Constituency, where he accused Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II of allegedly supporting the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In response, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II challenged Nketia to pursue legal action if he had any evidence of political alignment.

Speaking to Citi News, Brogya Genfi reiterated the NDC’s stance against chiefs engaging in active politics.

“Once they have thrown in the challenge, the national chairman will respond to it. So be rest assured that the national chairman will respond to it.

“This matter is not going to die because it is important that our chiefs stay neutral and do not participate in active partisan politics as stipulated in the 1992 constitution and you know that the Supreme Court has had the opportunity to interpret what active partisan politics mean.

“And that means that chiefs, no matter the status, whether paramount chiefs or divisional chiefs, must not participate in active politics, even endorsing candidates. And so this is a matter that I am very sure will not die,” Mr. Genfi said.
