West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus Apologises After Red Card Incident Against Tottenham

West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus has issued an apology for his actions during last month’s heated match against Tottenham Hotspur, which resulted in a red card and subsequent extended ban.

Initially suspended for three games, the Ghanaian international now faces a five-match suspension after an additional charge of violent conduct from the Football Association (FA). The ruling also includes a £60,000 fine.

In a statement submitted to the independent regulatory commission, Kudus described feeling “deeply embarrassed” by his behaviour, acknowledging that he “lost his cool” after a foul on Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.

The midfielder’s apology, shared in a letter to the commission, emphasised that his actions were “out of character”. Although Kudus said he couldn’t recall all details of the altercation, he accepted that video footage showed he had pushed Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr in the face—an offence he agreed merited a red card.

Kudus noted that the contact with Van de Ven was minimal but admitted his reaction was inappropriate. He also suggested that Van de Ven may have exaggerated the incident but acknowledged that his own response was wrong.

Despite the apology, Kudus clarified that he neither injured anyone nor used excessive force during the incident.
