A Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region for allegedly spreading false information.

The Wontumi FM presenter is accused of making claims that voters in Ghana’s December general elections should cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days. Authorities have described the assertions as “false and likely to disturb public peace.”

Mr. Asiedu was invited by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Thursday, November 23, and taken into custody. Police say preparations are underway to present him in court.

The arrest is in line with section 208 of Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which prohibits the publication of false news.
