Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party and popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is expected to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Tuesday, May 27, as part of an ongoing probe into alleged illegal mining activities.
Mr. Antwi-Boasiako voluntarily presented himself at the CID headquarters in Accra on Monday, following an unsuccessful attempt by police to arrest him last Friday. He was accompanied by legal counsel, including former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame and former lawmaker Andy Appiah-Kubi.
A statement issued by the CID’s Public Affairs Unit said Mr. Antwi-Boasiako was formally cautioned on three counts: operating a mine without a license, polluting water bodies, and unauthorized entry into a forest reserve.

The CID confirmed that the party chairman fully cooperated with investigators, submitted a statement, and was released on bail with two sureties. He is due to return for further questioning at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
