President John Dramani Mahama has reassured Ghanaians of his government’s commitment to resolving the country’s ongoing energy challenges and ensuring a return to stable power supply, amid fears of another wave of “dumsor” (frequent power outages).
Speaking at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana on Thursday, 9 January, President Mahama acknowledged the country’s pressing difficulties, particularly in the energy sector, but emphasised his administration’s determination to address these issues.
“We are assuming office at a critical moment in Ghana’s history, facing significant challenges. This is exactly why you elected us,” he told the congregation.
The president acknowledged the risk of power shortages due to insufficient fuel supplies for power generation. However, he urged the public not to lose hope.
“There is a threat of power outages, but my fellow Ghanaians, do not despair. You elected us to solve these problems, not to shift the blame,” he said.
President Mahama revealed that on 8 January, he had convened a stakeholders’ meeting to explore innovative strategies aimed at stabilising the country’s energy supply. He reassured citizens that solutions are in the pipeline.
“I can assure you that the ideas generated will ensure that your lights stay on, and that we do not return to dumsor,” he added.
The president stressed the need for a coordinated and urgent response to the energy crisis, with his government at the forefront of efforts to find lasting solutions.
