Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has inaugurated a newly appointed 13-member Board of Directors for the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBoD), describing the body as central to the country’s economic transformation and recovery agenda.

Speaking at a ceremony in Accra, Dr Forson urged the board to deliver on its mandate of strengthening Ghana’s gold trade, improving transparency in the sector, and supporting broader economic recovery efforts.

“Gold is at the heart of our renewed economic strategy,” he said. “We expect the Board to operate with transparency, efficiency, and integrity as it works to better harness our natural resources.”

The Minister highlighted the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi as evidence of the country’s economic momentum, crediting coordinated fiscal and monetary policy, increased foreign inflows from gold, cocoa and remittances, and improved public financial management.

“As of 13 May 2025, the Ghana cedi has appreciated by 16.7% against the US dollar, making it the world’s best-performing currency so far this year,” he said.

Dr Forson expressed confidence in the leadership of the new board, chaired by Mr Kojo Fynn, and emphasised the role of the GoldBoD in ensuring long-term gains from the gold sector are sustained.

“The Ghana Gold Board will be key to sustaining this progress and ensuring the sector contributes more meaningfully to our transformation,” he added.
