Nine years after the tragic killing of Joseph Boakye (JB) Danquah Adu, the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, his widow, Ivy Heward-Mills, has called on Parliament to take decisive action in solving the case.
In a series of heartfelt Facebook posts, Heward-Mills expressed her frustration with the lack of progress in the investigation into her husband’s murder, which occurred on February 8, 2016, at his home in Shiashi, East Legon, Accra. She urged Speaker Alban S.K. Bagbin, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and other members of Parliament to take immediate steps to bring those responsible to justice.
Heward-Mills highlighted the stark contrast between the unresolved case of her husband and the quick resolution of the murder of British MP Jo Cox in 2016, whose killer was identified, tried, and sentenced within five months.
“Good morning, Parliament of Ghana,” she wrote. “Respectfully, you have been silent.”
She further appealed to lawmakers not to let the case remain unsolved for another year. “Nine years is a long time, but let it not be said that 10 years went by and Parliament looked on unperturbed,” she added.
In a separate post, Heward-Mills mourned the loss of her husband, writing: “That indelible smile… 9 years have gone by… Will there ever be justice? It is not well. It is not well at all.”
