Ghanaian football giants Asante Kotoko have been left devastated following the tragic death of their supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, in a violent incident at Nana Koramansah Park.

In response, the club has taken a firm stance, announcing the suspension of all senior team football activities until justice is fully served.

In an emotional club statement, Kotoko expressed deep sorrow over the loss and commended the swift action of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and other security officials in arresting three key suspects linked to the incident. The club vowed to cooperate with authorities to ensure that every perpetrator is brought to justice.

A Call for Peace and Reform in Ghanaian Football

Asante Kotoko has urged fans to remain calm and disciplined, despite the pain and provocation of the tragedy. The club also extended gratitude to its supporters for not resorting to violence, emphasizing that unity and restraint will be key in ensuring justice prevails.

Furthermore, Kotoko has accepted an invitation from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to engage in discussions on the matter. The club sees this as an opportunity to end violence, hooliganism, and lawlessness in Ghanaian football, calling on all clubs—including their fiercest rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak—to unite in this cause.

Football Put on Hold Until Justice is Achieved

Kotoko has made it clear that footballing activities for the senior team will remain suspended indefinitely. Management has also halted all on-pitch activities, except for juvenile team training and rehabilitation for injured players.

“This is bigger than football,” the statement read. “It is about securing the future of our domestic league once and for all.”
