The Transcontinental Institution of Higher Education has launched the Charles Agyinasare Scholarship, which it describes as “a transformative” initiative designed to support aspiring PhD candidates committed to advancing knowledge and “driving systemic change” across Ghana and the African continent.
This “prestigious” scholarship programme, according to a statement issued by the University dated 4 May 2026, is tailored for individuals who are passionate about pursuing doctoral-level education and contributing meaningfully to national development.
It will provide a total of $5,000 per year, distributed among selected applicants, to help alleviate financial barriers and enable scholars to focus on impactful research.
The selection criteria for the Charles Agyinasare Scholarship will include demonstrated financial need, strong academic potential and status as a first-generation PhD student within their family
The statement noted that the scholarship is inspired by the “remarkable” achievements of Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, PhD, “whose contributions have influenced and uplifted countless Ghanaians.”
The school highlighted that the cleric’s “legacy of excellence, leadership, and intellectual advancement serves as a beacon of possibility,” adding: “Through this initiative, he seeks to empower a new generation of scholars to follow in his footsteps and join the distinguished community of PhD degree holders.”
This scholarship is not just about academic advancement,” said a spokesperson for the institution. “It is about equipping visionary leaders with the tools to create systemic change and develop original theories that directly address the needs and realities of Ghana and Africa at large.”
According to the statement, unlike traditional doctoral programmes rooted in generalised Western frameworks, this PhD programme is uniquely designed for Africa.
It also emphasises African-focused research, innovation, and the development of new intellectual paradigms that will shape Ghana’s future.
Scholars will be empowered to challenge existing norms and contribute to the advancement of Ghana through relevant, high-impact work, the University noted.
The Transcontinental Institution of Higher Education is fully accredited within the European Union (EU) and is recognised in Ghana and internationally, ensuring that graduates receive a globally respected qualification while engaging in locally relevant scholarship.
Applications for the Charles Agyinasare Scholarship opened from 1 May 2026.
